Interior nominee promises to revisit Obama monuments takeovers

“I’m absolutely committed to restoring trust. If confirmed, I’ve committed to go out to Utah first, and talk to the governor and talk to the people on the ground, and come back and make a recommendation to the President.” Ryan Zinke

In this CSPAN video, Utah Senator Mike Lee questions President-elect Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the Interior, Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke, about the unjust and possibly unlawful seizure of millions of acres throughout the West, in particular, the recently-designated Bears Ears National Monument in southeastern Utah.

The Bears Ears monument takeover by the Obama Administration was vehemently opposed by the locals of San Juan County, Utah, and they continue to fight the designation hoping that President Trump will use his clout to reverse Obama’s proclamation, or at least decrease the size of this vast federal taking. Utah residents by and large, as well as those closest to the new monument, including members of the Navajo and Ute tribes, have made a powerful case that the federal designation poses a grave threat to their local economies, their cultures, and their future ability to make a living and continue to bring their families up on the land.

Here Congressman Zinke makes a promise to visit with the people of Utah and other western states, and review Obama’s midnight monuments declarations keeping in mind a possible reversal of one or more of these federal takeovers. Free Range Report urges you to share this video, and continue to hold Congressman Zinke, should he be confirmed as Secretary of the Interior, accountable for his promise to the people of Utah and beyond.
